Travelling to Salzburg

It was my last day of stay in Munich before I have to fly back home. It was my last day of sightseeing tour in Bavaria. On that day I was in Chiemsee with my friends, we decided to go to Salzburg as it was not far from Munich. Almost two hours drive with a train. Beth and Celia have been to Salzburg many times before, so they wanted me to see the baroque old city of Salzburg. This time with Beth´s daughter Claudia.

Celia and I started our travel from Munich main train station, Claudia from the first stop while her mother got in from Rosenheim train station. As I have said from the last hub, the Bayern (Bavarian) ticket costs only €29 back and forth , whether it is for 1 or 5 persons.

Salzburg

Salzburg means "Salt Castle" in English. It is located in Austria and the next city near the boundary to Germany. The Altstadt (Old City) of Salzburg has a baroque architecture. It was once listed as UNESCO Heritage Site in 1997. The musical film "The Sounds Of Silence" was filmed here. (Source: Wikipedia).

The train station of Salzburg was not the one I expected. It was small compared to Munich and it was crowded as there was and there are still renovations going on. The day was not fine for strolling around because it was raining. The motto of that day was rain or shine. Came what may as long as it was not gale that blowed us away. A kind of gale from the Atlantic ocean that I have experienced in Ireland. Anyway we had our weapon with us against the rain. Umbrella!

We bought a twenty four hour bus ticket for our ride to the Altstadt. We went out of the bus and started our stroll in the historic city of Salzburg. Our first stop was the oriental shop selling self made perfumes in which the contents of different essential oils came from Egypt. I wonder if they really came from Egypt. The shop sells oriental clothes to be use for belly dancing. Oriental decorations, diffusers and many exotic paraphernalia for spiritual and meditation purposes are being sold here.

Where To Go

1. Mozart´s Birthplace

Salzburg is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart was born on January 27, 1756 and died on December 5, 1791 at the age of 35 ( Source:Wikipedia). He was a popular talented composer in the 18Th Century. In Mozart's birthplace, you can find some of his musical instruments, his certificates, his photos from young Mozart to the adult Mozart, his portraits and many other interesting things about him.

There is a Mozart Square where you can find everything about him. Mozarts Geburtshaus (birthplace) is at the same time his museum. There is a Mozart Cafe which is mostly visited by the tourists all over the world. If you would like to experience the Austrian cakes and coffee, feel free to have a rest in this cosy beautiful ambiance.

2. "DIE ECHTEN MOZART REBER KUGEL" Shop

It means "The True Mozart Reber Marble" when it is translated to english language. It is a chocolate formed into marble. This Mozart Kugel as it is known here in Germany and in Austria, is a very delicious marzipan formed into marble and coated with chocolate. Many varieties of chocolates are sold in this shop. The best thing you can bring with you as a gift for your love ones at home when you are visiting Austria. I am not fond of chocolates but in this case I have eaten a lot. It was hard to stop eating them.

3. Residenzplatz and Residenzbrunnen

The building behind the fountain is the Residenzplatz (residential place or building) in the heart of the Altstadt (old town) of Salzburg. This building is usually use for theater plays, sports, live music concerts and parties like New Years Eve. Carriages for rent are waiting here for the tourists to explore the city in style.

Residenzbrunnen is the fountain in front of the Residenzplatz. It is the most beautiful baroque fountain in Salzburg.

4. Mirabell Garden

As my friends and I continued to stroll, we had at last found the Mirabell Garden of the Mirabell Castle. We were lucky for the rain had stopped and the sun was shining. Beautiful!!!! I said as I was looking from the head of a lion statue above where we came from. I was fascinated by the beauty of the garden with the view of the Cathedral and the Fortress of Hohensalzburg. Very awesome to look at.

Plenty of tourists where with us strolling around, taking photos everywhere in every positions. We were one of them. As always, we were having fun taking photos in solo, in two´s and in three´s as there was always one of us who took the photos.

5. Christmas in Salzburg Shop

Christmas in Salzburg is a two seasons shop. The Easter and the Christmas seasons. It is a shop where you can buy gorgeous Easter and Christmas decorations in many creative ways. It is difficult for me to describe them as no words are enough to explain how lovely they are. I´ll just show you what I mean.

Adieu Mozart City

It was a very short day but a successful one. We had to go back to the train station for our travel back to Germany. A day in Mozart city is not enough to see all the historical buildings and places in Salzburg. I have not seen all so I have to go back to Salzburg again for a week or two. Next time I will be prepared and I will know exactly what I would like to visit.

I hope you enjoyed reading my travel hub. Please feel free to leave a comment, an honest one. Thank you for reading.
