Paraffin Wax

Have you tried paraffin wax for your beauty routine? No? Well, it is time to start using it for the benefits of your skin especially on your feet and hands. I have encountered Paraffin wax when I was working in Spa Elysium, Ireland. At first, I was sceptical for I have heard this paraffin wax before only in connection with candles.

The paraffin wax used in the spas, is a soft wax heated in a special paraffin wax heater. It is good for a treatment before having a manicure and a pedicure. It is good to soften the skin of your hands and feet especially to those people who have hard skin. It is a soft wax because it contains paraffin oil and it can be heated on a low temperature. As the temperature is low as normal, the feet or hands can be treated on this paraffin wax bath without causing damage to the skin. It is for external use only.

Caution For Using Paraffin Wax

  1. Paraffin wax is for external use only.
  2. Never heat the paraffin wax in the microwave.
  3. Always use paraffin wax heater which has automatic heat controller.
  4. Never heat the paraffin wax in the stove or electric burner.
  5. Always try the temperature of the paraffin wax before putting your feet or hands inside if it is already okay to soak your parts of the body on the heater.
  6. Be careful. Paraffin wax is flammable.

What you need when having a paraffin wax bath at home:

  • Paraffin wax heater.
  • Blocks of paraffin wax. You can buy paraffin wax with lavender fragrance or any other fragrances sold in a spa or salon shops or you can buy it online.
  • Moisturizer.
  • Plastic bags for both hands or feet.
  • Warm spa gloves.
  • Hand towel.

Paraffin Hands Treatment

  1. Prepare the paraffin wax by heating the wax on the heater.
  2. Take the jewelries off from your hands.
  3. Wash your hands with a soap and pat dry.
  4. Rub a little moisturizer in your hands.
  5. Gently submerge your lightly spread left fingers down the paraffin wax. Let stay for a few seconds then put it down again. Repeat 4 to 5 times to have a kind of paraffin glove as a result. The more the paraffin glove, the better. Then put your paraffin glove hand into the plastic bag and fix it tightly. Wait for about 10-12 minutes until the wax hardens. You need somebody to do that for you!
  6. Then, do the same with the right hand. After repeating the procedure and your both hands are with paraffin gloves, wait for about 10 to 12 minutes after you have inserted the hands inside a spa warm gloves.
  7. Pull off the paraffin wax gloves with the plastic bags from your hands. Get off the remaining wax from your hands.
  8. You can have your manicure now.

Paraffin Feet Treatment

How To Use Paraffin Feet Treatment:

  1. Prepare the paraffin wax by heating it on the paraffin heater.
  2. Wash your feet and pat dry clean.
  3. Rub a little moisturizer on your feet.
  4. When the paraffin has melted and is at the right temperature, slowly submerge your clean feet on the heater. First the left or the right foot. Slightly spread your toes so that the paraffin wax can reach the spaces between the toes. Submerge the feet 4 to 5 times so that the paraffin wax covers the foot like a glove on your skin. The thicker the paraffin glove, the better. Then insert your foot into a plastic bag and seal it tightly.
  5. Repeat the same procedure to the other right or left foot. Don´t forget to submerge the foot 4 to 5 times. When it´s done, insert it inside a plastic bag and seal it tightly.
  6. Put the feet inside the booties and let it rest for around 10 minutes to let it harden.
  7. Pull off the paraffin wax glove with the plastic bags from your feet. Remove the remaining wax after that. There, you can feel how soft your feet are.
  8. You can have your pedicure now.

Benefits Of Hands And Feet Paraffin Wax

The benefits of this paraffin wax therapy are:

The heat of the paraffin wax is absorbed by the skin and thus opens the pores. It moisturizes and gives radiant looks to your feet and hands. It soothes the muscle pains and helps increase the blood circulation of the body.

Note: It is better to have a paraffin treatment in a salon or at the spa as you have nothing else to do except to relax.

You said the paraffin is used BEFORE a manicure. Everywhere I have been they always do the treatment after the manicure. Which is correct?

Thelma Alberts 3 months ago

Hi Nikki! I don't know which is correct. Before or after? But where I worked before, we did the paraffin wax treatment before the manicure or the pedicure. Maybe to avoid that the new color will get off from the nails. Just in case. But you know, every business has its own procedure. Thanks for your comment.

While I have no plan to use this tip (being a normal lazy guy lol), I'm sure some of my followers will like it. The title got my attention, as I normally only associate "paraffin" with burning.

Socially shared, up and useful.

Sorry just realized I said stuff instead of stiff.

I was given paraffin wax treatments by the physical therapist when I broke my wrist several years ago. I had several surgeries and many physical therapy sessions. The paraffin wax treatments were sooo nice! They soothed my sore muscles and ligaments and made my hand feel more flexible. And my skin on that hand was much softer than the other hand. While I wasn't sorry when I was well, I did miss those lovely dips in the very warm wax.

I injured my elbow a long time ago and it wouldn't heal. My doctor suggested that I start using paraffin wax on it because the heat goes deep into the tissue. A few weeks of that a couple of times a day and my elbow was back to normal. It's good stuff.

I once had a parrifin pedicure and never forgot how reaxing it was always promising myself the same treatment again but never got around to it.

I must enquire as to where it can be bought as the winter months can cause dry skin especially on the feet.

This has been an interesting read and thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Have a nice day!

Thelma Alberts 5 weeks ago
