How To Bring Your Dog To The Philippines

Plans

Bringing your dog to the Philippines is an idea to think of very carefully and very wisely as it takes a great planning and effort on how your pet survives the stress that he/she will encounter on his/her travel on the flight to the Philippines.

Flying to the Philippines from Germany or Schiphol, The Netherlands takes at least 12,5 hours to Manila which in this case, a none stop flight to the Philippines. Of course it depends on the airlines you are flying with.

On our long months vacation to my home country, my hubby and I decided to bring Angus, our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog with us. We could not leave him at home in Germany (my second home country) because there is nobody who can take care of him and we know that he will be very upset if we would leave him behind. We would be very upset too as he is a member of our small family. Seems like he is our child.

What To Do

  1. Ask information from your travel agency which airlines accept dog as a cargo or as an excess luggage.
  2. Ask any information from any pet air cargo who are transporting and taking care of live animals on flight.
  3. Contact the Bureau of Animals in Manila and apply for an import permit and ask about the requirements needed for your dogs travel.
  4. Book your flight, if possible together with your dog and no stop over in any country to avoid stress for your pet and for yourself.
  5. Get an appointment from your veterinarian and arrange the time of your pet's vaccinations your pet needs.
  6. Buy a cage which is required by the IATA, International Air Transport Association. The cage of "Sky" and " Vari" have these requirements.

Tips

  • Buy the cage as early as possible so your dog will be acquainted to the cage he will be using on the flight.
  • If you have relatives in Manila, let them apply for you the Import Permit. The filled up Application Form you have made should be brought to the Bureau of Animals so that you can have your ready Import Permit. Your relative can mail it to you via DHL. Of course you can send your application directly to the Bureau of Animals but sometimes it takes a lot of time until you get an answer from them.

I hope this article will help you with your travel with your dog. Thanks for reading.

Hi Nell Rose. Yes, some countries are still practising this 6 months quarantine. Quarantine is a nightmare for a dog and I am glad Angus did not have to. Thanks for stopping by and giving your comment.

Great info! I always wonder about traveling abroad with my pooches. I never realized there was SO much to it. I didn't know pets have passports. I remember when moving to Hawaii from Virginia we would have had to quarantine our cat for 6 months so we gave her away. Something a lot of people need to think about. It's not so simple when traveling between countries with pets. Appreciate you spreading some insight to it. I'm happy to hear PI is not practicing quarantine time.. like you said it's a nightmare! Mine are like my children too! I can't imagine them locked up for 6 months. They would go absolutely crazy!

Hi Prescilla! You have to write to the U.S. Embassy or send an e-mail to them, asking about what you need for bringing your dog with you to Hawaii. You can send an e-mail as well, to the Bureau of Animals in Hawaii, asking exact information you have to accomplish about your travel with your dog to their country. You can even google the information. I am sure that they will tell you what kind of vaccination your dog needs. The important documents (like your dogs passport) that you will need for your dog, will be shown to the Bureau of Animals in the airport. I hope I have help you a little. Good luck!

Hello Elmer!

Thanks for reading my article and for giving a comment. Angus was not quarantined when we landed in Manila last September 2011. We had all the papers we needed as what I have written here. Everything was easy. To be sure, ask the Bureau of Animals in the Philippines if there is any changes. I hope I have help you with this information. Have a happy holiday!
