The Reunion

Last Sunday I went with my family to an unusual family reunion. It was Angus family reunion. Angus is our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog. It was my first dog family reunion held in the house of the breeder, of these lovely breed dogs.

When we arrived at the breeders garden with my self made chocolate sponge cake, there were already lots of people sitting around the table eating their brought cakes and drinking their coffee. They are the owners of Angus siblings, nephews and nieces.

As we entered the garden, I have not noticed that my husband had put Angus off his leash and also his necklace. There were lots of dogs who looked like him. "Where is Angus", I asked. I did not know which one was our pet. They looked all the same to me, besides the other which I was able to recognize because they were black and tan and the other one which was a tricolor cavalier.

Angus on the other hand, after recovering from shock of seeing three four or even more of his kind, looked around and sniffed everyone of them. Some of them did not like his sniffing behaviour and pushed him away. I should say Angus is a male and he is not used to have contacts with other dogs, not even to his kind. Poor pet! We have not prepared him for this "party".

This was the second time Angus attended his family reunion. The first one was , when he was still a year old, before we moved to Ireland. I don´t know if he can remember his mother or his sisters and brothers. But then he enjoyed the time he was with his family. Running around with the others, sniffing each other (mostly Angus), peeing everywhere in the garden, making big business on the base of the lamp post and barking with the others when a big dog passed by, outside the fence of the garden.

When Angus was not with the other Blenheims (brown and white colors), he was following one of the tricolor cavalier Cleo or Charlie. I really can not remember their names. It was so confusing for me. I said to my husband that we might bring the wrong one back home. He said he will not. He has a special whistle tone for Angus, that Angus can´t resist. He is such a loyal and well trained pet.

Chiara, Angus mother is six years old. She was so quiet and just sitting on someones lap, sometimes on my lap. She is still gorgeous but looked so tired and seems sad to me. She has 6 children in all. The first children she had were Angus (Asterix, his born name), Atilla, Aladin and Arielle. She gave birth to another two cavaliers. She is not only a mother but also a grand and great grandmother. All her children, grand and great grandchildren were there ( I assume) in the reunion.

It was not only Chiara sitting on the lap of some visitors, there were also three or four cavaliers sitting or laying on the chair or on somebodies laps. They were so lovely, quiet and just enjoying the pleasantness of being pampered by someones hands. I wish I could have a big garden and have them all by my side.

Goodbye!!!!

Like any other event, it had to come to an end. Most of the cavaliers and their owners had left home. It was time for us to go home as well. The cavaliers that were there besides Angus, were the ones left by the breeder with Chiara, Angus mother. Angus did not like to go home. I understood him. No more fun for him with his relatives. He has to stay with us in our so quiet home. Play with us. We had to say "good bye". I wonder if he felt sad leaving his mother and all the rest of his family like the way I felt before. I wish I could communicate with him in his own language.

My special thanks to Carmen Pranger, the breeder of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in Germany. http://www.unicorncastle.de

Hello Marellen. Thank you for stopping by and giving a comment. Yes, it was fun. The first time I heard about dog family reunion, I was laughing because it seems so weird but then all the dogs were enjoying the party as well as the masters.

This is a nice get together for both. Lovely and you have the chance to see how dogs enjoy each others company.
